Our Story
Our creation
Smile Again Families – Uganda was founded in 2014 by Fred and Stella, a Catholic married couple from Uganda who felt a deep calling to support young adults in embracing Christian marriage. Through their work in the community, they encountered a painful reality: many abandoned teenage mothers were carrying deep wounds that were often ignored and left unhealed
They soon recognized that some marital struggles stem from unresolved brokenness experienced during adolescence. One major factor was early pregnancy, often resulting from school dropout due to poverty, leaving young girls vulnerable to sexual exploitation. In many cases, this led to
early and unstable marriages—an increasing challenge within their community
Moved by compassion, Fred and Stella established Smile Again Families with a clear mission: to identify, restore, and empower victims of teenage pregnancy. The organization works to help young mothers rediscover their inner worth and the value of life through one-on-one psychosocial support, spiritual formation, vocational and entrepreneurial skills training, access to formal education, and guidance in personal development. These efforts enable young mothers to improve their livelihoods and reintegrate socially into their families and communities.
In addition to direct support, Smile Again Families conducts awareness campaigns and outreach programs in schools, churches, and local communities, reaching thousands of young people every year. Over the past ten years, the impact has been significant: 798 young mothers’ lives have been transformed, 1,250 young people reached, four high schools and eight Catholic parishes engaged, 50 community solidarity groups formed, eight young mothers supported to return to formal
education, and 107 empowered through vocational skills training.
This mission remains critical in restoring hope within vulnerable communities by equipping
young women with the tools for economic sustainability, emotional healing, and dignified living.
