Support a mother to go back to school

Lydia
Lydia is a committed member of the Birinzi Solidarity Group. She is hardworking, determined, and deeply committed to building a better future for herself and her child. However, Lydia did not finish Primary School. She grew up with her grandmother, who struggled to pay her school fees. When her grandmother became overwhelmed financially, dropping out of school became inevitable. 2026, Lydia made a brave decision — she has gone back to school. To keep her in school, she needs:
• 150 USD per term (450 USD per year) for tuition
• 50 USD per term for school requirements

Brenda
For three years, Brenda stayed out of school when she became pregnant at 14 years. She had not completed Primary, and deep in her heart she felt afraid. Afraid to sit in class again. Afraid that she was now “too old.” Afraid she would not fit in. We kept encouraging her. Reminding her that it is never too late. But fear held her back. After watching her fellow teenage mothers’ progress year by year through our Smiling Back to School program, Brenda found the courage to try again. In 2026, she has officially reported back to school.
Now, we are calling upon kind-hearted well-wishers to stand with Brenda on this journey. To keep her in school, she needs:
• 150 USD per term (450 USD per year) for tuition
• 50 USD per term for school requirements

Maria
After completing her Primary Leaving Examinations, Maria had to drop out of school because her parents were struggling to support a large family. It was suggested that she step aside to allow her younger siblings the opportunity to continue their education. Soon after leaving school, Maria became pregnant at a young age, which made her situation even more challenging. Despite these difficulties, Smile Again Families Foundation (SAF) has encouraged and supported Maria to return to school after giving birth so that she can build a better future for herself and her baby, whose father is not taking responsibility.
To help Maria remain in school and continue her education, she needs:
• 150 USD per term (450 USD per year) for tuition
• 50 USD per term for school requirements

Florence
After completing her Secondary level, Florence lost hope of continuing with her education because her parents could not afford the fees for the next level. During this difficult time, she became pregnant, which made her future feel even more uncertain. However, through the encouragement of Smile Again Families Foundation (SAF), Florence has come to believe that there is always a second chance in life. Today, she is determined to go back to school and continue pursuing her education.
Florence dreams of becoming a nurse, specifically a theatre assistant, so that she can build a stable future for herself and serve others. With the right support, she can take the next step toward achieving this dream and creating a better life for herself and her child.
To help Florence remain in school and continue her education, she needs:
• 550 USD per semester for tuition
• 50 USD per semester for school requirements

Rose Mary
Rose Mary completed her secondary education in 2024, but she could not continue to higher education because her parents were unable to afford it, despite her strong desire to become a health worker. Since then, she has been working as a maid in various homes, saving money to return to school. Unfortunately, the income from her job is not enough to cover the cost of her studies.
To help her remain in school and continue her education, she needs:
• 550 USD per semester for tuition
• 50 USD per semester for school requirements.

Mourine
Mourine became pregnant at the age of 16 while she was in Senior Two. The man responsible pressured her to abort the baby, but she refused because she believed in protecting the life of her child. As a result, he abandoned her and took no responsibility. Despite the challenges of being a young mother, Mourine worked hard doing small jobs to support herself and her child while continuing her education. Through determination, she completed her secondary school. Mourine has always dreamed of becoming a nurse to serve her community. This year she joined a nursing institute, but the cost of training is high, and she needs support to continue her studies.
To help her remain in school and continue her education, she needs:
• 550 USD per semester for tuition
• 50 USD per semester for school requirements.

Sylvia
My name is Sylvia, I’m 20 years old, and I have a two-year-old baby. Because my mother wasn’t financially well, I worked on people’s farms until I completed Primary Seven, but my mother couldn’t afford my school fees, so I had to stop studying. I then worked as a housemaid, but when my boss tried to assault me, I ran back home. My mother arranged for a man who promised to marry me and pay for my school fees. At first, he was faithful, and I returned to secondary school, but I became pregnant, and he denied responsibility, chasing me away and ending my education.
Thanks to Smile Again Families Foundation, I regained hope. Today, I run my own fashion business, creating materials for women and children, supporting myself and other teenage mothers. I am determined to achieve more, I wish to upgrade my studies but it is hard since I have to take care of my children as well.
You can support Sylvia and the daughter to have better life with 2500 USD.
